Rev’d Jonathan Widdess
Priest in Charge
Jonathan became our priest in charge in March 2013, and is enjoying life in Bargoed enormously. He is passionate about Jesus, mission and fighting against poverty and injustice. He is married to Amanda with 2 small children, and a somewhat scruffy ginger cat called Pippin. Originally from High Wycombe, but with deep welsh roots, Jonathan trained for the priesthood at Wycliffe Hall in Oxford. They were previously at St Mark's Gabalfa, where Jonathan was Assistant Curate. In his spare time he loves to read, explore the Valleys, watch films and take photographs.
It was recently announced that after nearly 4 years here, Jonathan and his family will be moving back to Oxford where he has been appointed as Vicar of Cumnor.
Originally from the West Midlands, John was licensed as a Reader in 1995. He is married to Cath with whom he has a son, Robert.
He is a classically trained musician who can play the guitar, flute and various other types of instrument that we're afraid to ask about in case he tells us. He also looks after the sound system, which greatly increases the number of things we can blame him for!
He says that he is an endemic pessimist and cynic – to which there is this advantage – life is always better than expected.
Community Project Coordinator
Originally from Swansea, Miriam is glad to be back in Wales after living in Manchester for the last few years.
Miriam is looking forward to developing St Gwladys' Church Hall into a welcoming and relaxed space for the community and is hopeful it will be a blessing, where people can try new activities and be released to reach their potential.
Miriam loves relaxing by watching films, reading or taking on overambitious craft projects. She also likes to be involved with children’s clubs and youth groups.
Volunteer Support Worker
Aimee is from Deri and moved away to Wolverhampton to study Sign Language and Disability Studies, before coming home.
Aimee lives with her husband and 6 year old son, which she survives by having her Sunday bath time – candles, locked door, the lot.
Aimee is looking forward to putting something back into the community and is excited about the fact that there is something for everyone here.
Aimee enjoys cooking, experimenting with recipes and is addicted to Costa coffees.
